Staffolo Print
It’s called “the Balcony of Vallesina” because of the wonderful view that you can see from the town walls. Staffolo is rich of history and traditions, jealously guarded by its inhabitants. The origin of the name Staffolo , according to the local legends, refers to the production of wine, a typical activity of this town (in Greek staphilé means bunch of grapes), or to the symbol of the city (in Italian “staffa” means stirrup). Probably the name derives from the Longobard word staffal, that means “boundary post”, because Staffolo is located along the boundary line that in the Middle Ages divided the duchy of Spoleto from the Byzantine territories. Moreover, for its centuries-old tradition of wine production, Staffolo can be considered the “Hill of Verdicchio”.
