San Paolo di Jesi Print
The town, one of the Castles of Jesi, stands to the right of the Esino river, on a small hill near the one of Staffolo. The name comes from the church of San Paolo, around which the town was born. The second part of the name,"di Jesi", was added in the nineteenth century to point out a never broken link. San Paolo is one of the smallest municipalities of the province of Ancona, placed at the center of an agriculture-oriented area . Because of its location, protected from cold winds in winter and for the ventilated and cool climate in summer, is well-suited to the cultivation of the vine. It's important to remember that Italo Calvino, in his book "Fiabe italiane" in 1956, gathered two stories of San Paolo, "Quattordici" and "Giuanni ben forte."
