Mergo Print
Mergo is a small medieval castle (XII century), placed on the left side of the valley of the river Esino, on a hill which allowed to control the valley. According to a nice tradition, but without foundation, the name of the country would come from a bird, the "smergo", similar to the blackbird, which is also on the municipal emblem. The old name, "Merago", seems to come from a medieval Latin word that meant wet and marshy places.
