In its territory are in fact the most famous underground complex of Italy, the Grotte di Frasassi, and Genga is one of the municipalities that are part of the Parco Naturale Regionale Gola della Rossa e Frasassi. The name of the castle is probably due to the tall rocky outcrop on which it was built. From there took the name also of the feudal lords of the castle, the counts Della Genga, family of Pope Leone XII (Annibale Della Genga, 1760-1829). Today the economy of Genga is based on water heating industry and the tourism brought by the caves.
