Civic Archaeological Museum “Alvaro Casagrande” PDF Print E-mail

The museum was opened in 2000 (together with the archaeological park) and is housed in the Palace "Livia Della Rovere", where the last Duchess of Urbino(1585-1641) lived.

In the museum are exposed the precious artefacts discovered during excavations of Suasa. Among these, important are the frescoes recovered inside the Domus Coiedii (the house of the Roman Coiedii family), full of mythological personages, architectural representations and colorful decorative motifs.

The other rooms house a marble head of Emperor Augusto (I century A.D.) of significant stylistic quality, sculptures, inscriptions, objects that belonged to the decoration of the house, ceramics, trousseaus tomb and remains of the trade forum.
To find out more about Suasa and the ancient history of this valley you can also visit the "Museo del territorio di Suasa" ("Museum of the territory of Suasa") in San Lorenzo in Campo.

Church of San Francesco di Paola PDF Print E-mail

The church, also called "del Santissimo Crocifisso" is located at the bottom of the town, near the former convent of "frati Minimi" that now houses the Town Hall. It was built in 1604 following the "miraculous" healing of Giuliano Della Rovere, commendatory abbot of Castelleone and paternal uncle of the Duchess Livia, attributed to the intercession of san Francesco di Paola.
The church has a rather original facade, which seems to be born from the local artistic tradition with the colonial baroque style, popular in Central and South America.

The apse is decorated with a picture with "San Francesco di Paola" and a "Madonna col Bambino e i santi Domenico e Monica", by an author close to Ercole Ramazzani (XVI sec.) for the style and color vivacity. Inside there is also a "Traslazione della Santa Casa di Loreto" (1674) by Ascanio Casola, and an elegant wooden statue showing the 'Ecce Homo "(XVII century).

Church of Saints Pietro and Paolo PDF Print E-mail

Placed at the entrance of the oldest part of the settlement, a few steps away from the museum, the church was built in the second half of the sixteenth century. The doors to the three naves of the church are in bronze (XX sec.), and decorated with depictions of the lives of saints to whom the church is dedicated.
Inside there is a valuable painting with the "Annunciazione", attributed to Antonio Viviani (1560-1620), one of the best students of Federico Barocci. Certainly are well-made works also the "Sant’Antonio abate" painting (XVII cent.), a graceful Crucifix of the seventeenth century and the wood sculpture of "San Pietro Martire" (XVI / XVII sec.), the patron of the town.

The apse was frescoed in 1952 with the "Cristo Re fra i santi Pietro e Paolo" by the painter from Ostra Tarcisio Bedini.
